In this article, we will explain what tags are, how they work, and the various ways you can use them.
Tags are Designed To
- Grant users access to different areas of your app.
- Make sections of the app invisible to non-tag users
- Enable you to target communications to specific users
- Let specific users get notifications on new content
- Restrict access to booking calendars to specific users.
- Grant exclusive access for specific users to view and participate in events.
How to Create a Tag
- Go to the tags section located on the left side of your dashboard, making sure you are on the "Tags" tab.
- Click the green "ADD TAG" button.

- Enter the tag name in the "Tag" field and click the green "SAVE" button - Make sure to leave it set to "No Business Unit."
TIP: You can check the "Do not send experience-related notifications" check box if you don't want users with this Tag assigned to receive any experience-related notifications
How to Add a Tag to Users
Prior to assigning a Tag to a user, it is essential to follow the aforementioned steps and create the Tag first.
Adding a Tag to a Single User
- Navigate to the "Contacts" section on the left side of your dashboard, and enter the user's name in the search bar.
- Check the box next to the user, and then select the drop-down menu labeled "Bulk Actions."

- Choose "Add Tag(s)"
- Enter the Tag you wish to add to the user; you can add multiple Tags
- You can also select the "X" on the tag name to remove the Tag
- To save, click the green "ADD TAGS" button
Adding a Tag to multiple users
- Proceed with the same steps as mentioned above, but this time, select multiple users instead of just one.
Tags for Communications
- To send Push Notifications or Private Messages, access the "Communications" section on the left side of your dashboard and choose the notification tab.
- Click on the green "ADD NOTIFICATION" button.
- You have the option to send either a Push Notification or a Private Message and customize the audience based on Tags. We also go into more detail on sending notifications HERE in the help center.
- Custom Emails can also be sent from your dashboard by selecting the "Custom Email" tab within the Communications section of your dashboard and selecting the "Add Custom Email."
- Additionally, you have the flexibility to send emails to specific audiences based on Tags. You can opt to send emails instantly, schedule them for later, or even set a specific time for delivery, which is further explained in a separate help article.
Filtering by Tags
- Multiple sections within the dashboard provide the option to filter by tags, offering valuable functionality for organizing and managing user access and permissions.
